| Exemplar - Poem by Gerard Geiger |
|
Exemplar A pile of dark gray plumes, matted with a dusty white feathered lining, melding into the leaves under a cyclone fence. A bottom fork, where the wire mesh is connected, imbedded in the trace of neck which fatally imprisoned the search and rescue effort of the parent goose. In front of the stranded head lies the tufted remains from the thinly feathered gray backed fuzz of the adolescent gosling which strayed under the fenced enclosure, prompting its mother to place all in harms way to save her most precious charge...her reason for life...her conscious commitment to unfettered selflessness and love...her unwavering dedication to protect and preserve, guide, direct, console and comfort her triumph of creation and nurturing... her love...her child...her life... without which, she knew, there is nothing.
